What We Look For
After a season like this one, we are looking for hail bruises on the shingles. Those are the spots where the hail knocked the protective granules off and exposed the fiberglass mat underneath. They look small, but the next storm opens them up fast.
We check the flashing around chimneys and walls, the rubber boots on vent pipes, and the valleys where two slopes meet. We look for soft spots in the decking, which means water has been getting in for a while. We check the attic side too, looking for water stains on the wood and wet insulation.
