Glenpool Roof Repair and Replacement

Glenpool's storm record names a school roof, a home's roof, and which side of town the hail hit. For a town this size, that is unusually specific.

When the Wind Took the School Roof

On July 14, 2016, a 70 knot storm crossed Glenpool, and the survey reads "Strong thunderstorm wind damaged the roofs of buildings at Glenpool Middle School." A school is usually a large, low building, and when the wind is strong enough to damage its roofs, the houses around it took the same gusts.

That was a bad night across the metro. The same date is on the record in Sapulpa, Jenks and Bixby, and in Sapulpa it blew much of the roof off a home. Glenpool's reporting point has logged 22 significant events between 2016 and 2026, and two more of them are worth knowing. On May 25, 2019, a 70 knot storm "uprooted trees." On July 27, 2022, a 61 knot storm "damaged the roof of a home, blew a small metal shed across the road, and snapped large tree limbs."

A shed carried across a Glenpool road is a fair picture of what 70 miles an hour does to anything not fastened down, including a shingle that lost its seal in an earlier storm.

The Town That Made Tulsa Famous

Glenpool exists because of oil. On November 22, 1905, a well came in on land belonging to Robert and Ida E. Glenn, opening what is described as one of the world's largest oil fields. Settlement began in 1906, the town was platted and renamed Glenpool on January 31, 1908, and it incorporated in 1917. The discovery's centennial was marked on November 22, 2005.

The town calls itself "the town that made Tulsa famous," and it is not a slogan anyone in Glenpool apologizes for. The town had 14,040 people at the 2020 Census.

North and South of the Old Field

The town grew up because of the Glenn Pool field, and the storm record, read honestly, tells you more about some parts of Glenpool than others.

The south side

The most recent hail on Glenpool's record is also the most specific. On October 18, 2025, the survey logged 1.50 inch hail with the note "Ping pong ball size hail damaged homes and vehicles on the south side of Glenpool." Few surveys name a side of town. If you live on Glenpool's south side, that line is about your street.

A south-side roof that took that hail will not necessarily show it. Ping pong ball hail bruises the shingle mat and loosens granules rather than punching holes, and the damage tends to surface as cracking the summer after the storm. The sooner it is looked at after the storm, the easier the damage is to connect to a dated event.

Around Glenpool Middle School

The July 2016 survey named the middle school's roofs. Large school and commercial roofs are usually low-slope systems where wind damage starts at the perimeter, peeling edge metal and membrane. The houses nearby are pitched shingle roofs that fail differently, at the ridge and along lifted courses, but they stood in the same wind.

The north side

The record does not name the north side of Glenpool, and we are not going to pretend it does. That is a gap in what got written down, not evidence the north side was spared. The May 2019 and July 2022 storms are logged to Glenpool as a whole, and a roof anywhere in town was under them.

The July 2022 shed is also a reminder that a Glenpool property usually has more than one roof on it. Sheds, carports, detached garages and workshops are lighter structures than the house, often with thinner roofing, and they are the first things a strong gust lifts or tears. If you are getting the house inspected, have the outbuildings looked at in the same visit.

Next door

Glenpool is about five miles from our shop in Jenks, closer than most of the towns we serve, and we work Bixby and Sapulpa from the same place.

Ping Pong Hail on the South Side

Ten hail events of an inch or larger are on Glenpool's record for 2016 to 2026, and October 18, 2025 is the largest of them at 1.50 inches. An October hailstorm is the kind people forget, because it arrives after everyone has stopped thinking about storm season. It also landed late enough in the year that the damage went straight into a winter of freezes and thaws, which open up the cracks in a bruised Glenpool shingle before spring.

The practical point is timing. Hail damage is easiest to document and to tie to a dated storm while it is fresh. A year or two after the storm, the same bruised shingles will have weathered into something that looks like ordinary age. If you are on the south side and want to know whether the October storm left you a claim, our insurance claim help page explains how we document it.
